I’m not convinced of this doom narrative. My field probably experienced this earlier than everyone else except maybe airline pilots. I’m a media buyer (set up Google ads and Facebook ads for companies to sell stuff), and replacing my job has basically been Google and Facebook’s #1 goal since their inception. People have been saying my job will disappear in two years for ten years, but I’m busier than ever. Why you ask? Because when everyone has the same AI, the only edge you have is a human who is better at using it.
These companies are using AI as an excuse to lay off workers because the economy is bad and they’re getting pressure from their boards and “we’re using AI now” sounds more optimistic than “We’re bleeding cash with no end in sight!”
