Silly hype and spin.
1. For every job that is “lost” a new one will be created, though it will look different and require a different skill set. E.g., More healthcare workers that use AI and fewer software developers may be a good thing for humanity, not bad
2. There are many factors leading to the current wave of Tech job cuts. A big one - the sector was simply oversaturated to begin with. Industries like oil and gas, lay off large chunks of the workforce every 2-3 years!
2.1. Before 2022 the sector had grown non-stop for almost 14 years
2.2 All organization are pyramids… the largest numbers of jobs are at the junior most levels, so obviously that’s where the most cuts will be. “Cutting” one CEO is like cutting 100% of entry level hires. Nothing excessive about the entry level cuts when ratios at each level are maintained.
