Can we agree that this is a complicated issue. On one hand, the fact that AI companies profit off of copyrighted material and that over reliance on AI means a loss of our ability to use critical thinking is really troubling. On the other hand, I once heard someone say that art happens when an artist makes lots and lots of micro-decsions to render the idea they want to share. I could see a world where AI can be a small tool in an artists tool belt. I am a professional video editor and I used AI for the first time at work this month. Basically the client requested video footage of a VIP's office that were were only allowed one picture of. We used Runway to create 3 shots based off that picture. I still kind of hate AI, but I can see very small and niche situations where it can be the right tool for a job.
Anyone who calls themselves an "AI artist" is revealing they have no interest in developing as an artist. Imagine calling yourself a "calculator mathmetician" or a "rolling pin baker".
