We forget that earning is only half the side of the economy. So what if we can't earn? Give everybody a UBI, and they can still SPEND.
If you have to choose between a beach vacation and a cruise, you are voting for what society builds, more beach front, or more cruise ships. That's valuable information for companies regardless of how autonomously they run.
By giving a currency to people free of charge, we're saying to the income optimized, fully autonomous business system, "provide the most goods and services as economically possible to get as much money from this person, meeting their desires is worth money.
All of a sudden, the alignment problem becomes our fault for spending too much money on porn, drugs, and vacations.
