Well, actually in some cases yeah it's a really good for references (at least in the 3D field). When someone orderes me to make a charater, I use AI for making a simple model out of the references, so I don't have to spend a lot of time on guessing the basic shapes.
AI is a tool, and if used correctly can make the human work much easier, but using it completly instead of a real artist of course isn't right at all. Well at least that's what I think
