Note about not knowing how AI works: there were plenty of examples throughout history when people didn't know how certain things worked. Blacksmiths adding iron in certain proportions worked, but they didn't know why. Placing crops certain way was better, but there was no explanation at the time as to why. This year's Nobel Prize in Economics explain it better.
