Why the double standard? Because humanity is being guided toward a new digital everything foundation. When it has suited corporate interest, copyright has been downright Draconian. Pulling people into the digital space is now the unified goal of corporations and governments, though many of you would probably scoff at that notion as being a "conspiracy theory". Doesn't make it any less real. For urban centers, this world is going 100% digital, from money (Central Bank Digital Currency) to work and play in a virtual space, with all transportation in cities being electrified.
Removing the copyright barrier from the art creation sector feeds into the coming dominance of the virtual space. Using a more advanced version of these current AI programs, the average person, with zero visual creation ability, will be able to conjure immersive worlds in the virtual space with nothing more than a text prompt. For that to work, the program must be allowed to make use of everything ever created across all mediums so it can remix those elements into the desired form.
