Yes, it IS old school programming at the very bottom of the programming language stack. Machine language is the only thing that's actually running, from bootup to exit. The actual code that 'runs' on a digital computer, the code the CPU (or GPU) executes sequentially is math, logic, and control of digital numbers. The moment you type a letter on your keyboard, it's converted to a number. No computer ever 'sees' a picture or 'hears' a word or 'reads' a book. Every commercial computer today runs a Linux kernel at it's heart and that Operating System is what 'runs' the compiled AI code. There is no meaning in a digital number . . . turtles all the way down. There isn't any more 'behavior' in AI than there is in a tractor or a toaster. They're fancy calculators. Stop thinking they'll ever be anything other than fancy calculators.
