The problem is that "the smart people" is terrified of Ai. Thats because it is them getting replaced. The decades before this, automation and robotizing only made poor people uneployed.
So, the "smart people" now have to get jobs meaning physical labour. No more brainless coding of software, no more lawyers, no more expensive low end doctors.
I think this is for the better.
