I don't think you'd really want more than a powerful data mining and mixing AI. Not because they'd be dangerous in and of themselves -- just for ethical and practical reasons.
Stage 7 - Sounds cruel. It's in a box & it is wired in such a way to feel sad.
Stage 8+ - Practically, they'd still need reliable mechanical support. It would make more sense to create smaller systems that didn't interact.
