I feel like the eventual conclusion of the sigularity seems to be headed towards most people being implanted with chips that make humans AI-assisted. I doubt people will want these connected to networks (though some might), but this would allow for humans to process and store information at a greater speed, level of precision, and scale. This is pretty much the only realistic way for humans to continue to contribute in automated socities, modifying the human body in a transhumanist way in order to keep up with the advancement of machines. Might sound a bit sci-fi, but a few thousand years from now I expect the line between our minds and that of AGI will blur progressively.
I don't think people today want any of this, the same with designer babies, but once the snowball starts rolling and enhanced individuals who embrace transhumanism start to overperform compared to unenhanced peers the resistence will decline intergenerationally as transhumanism becomes normal rather than novel. Whether we like or not, I honestly believe this is the current trajectory if we don't kill ourselves with fossil fuels first.
