tbh i don't think driverless trucks are a bad thing, but the problem for me is that this is being rolled out too fast. i do think that certain jobs are too taxing for people and likely shouldn't exist as we know them today. and yes some of those jobs i'm talking about i've had. But i feel that if we have the tech to replace difficult jobs safely we should do it. But just like cashiers back in the day were 'replaced' by self checkout, i don't think when the tech is fully rolled out it'll fully replace all truckers. You will likely still need last mile truckers and other stuff like that (like loaders/unloaders at destinations and QA people), but instead of building better train infrastructure we have self driving trucks. though as mentioned in the video they pay less and are being automated too? that's sad. I really hope they do the upscaling thing. It is more or less what happened with cashiers. now you have 4+ registers overseen by 1 person, who fixes all the issues. that 1 person is paid (a little) more than a traditional cashier too.
but yeah any company that says 0 fatalities should be like okay i'll take you up on that. if you have 1 accident you will have to cease operation. and i'm sure you'll see how short they will last.
