What most comments here are failing to see is that in many cases jobs have a core needed capability but then a lot of effort and time is spent dealing with issues and repetitive stuff that the AI can take care of. So, there are a few things to take into account, how much of the job is already automated (e.g. factory workers) and how much of the job does not actually use people's capabilities.
People saying "I don't want an AI lawyer" are right. But do you want to pay your lawyer 100s per hour to review all the paperwork? Or even worse, charging you for it but using AI anyway? Or you want your laywer to focus on the case strategy and leave the slow time wasting activities to AI?
In Software Engineering, very little time is spent doing engineering, most of the time is writing code and debuging weird integration issues, I can see how AI can slash that effort requiring less people for the same final result.
Now, we have 2 scenarios, there will be less jobs available or people will be more productive doing the stuff that AI cannot deal with and produce more/better, etc. These scenarios might both happen at different times.
