The interviewer probably bought too many NVIDIA stocks to realize what Sir Penrose mean. It's pure fun. For everyone else: Penrose is right, AI is a full hype and bubble. In research no one doubts this, only the people outside of research gets confused and get tricked into beleiving believing the BS from OpenAI. There is no AGI, there is no human-level consciousness. It's like web3, blockhain. Every seasoned developer said guys, blockchain is a f-ing database, there is nothing special about it. But all the idiots thought it will transform human culture. Same now for AI. Many AI startups are already bankrupt. It's the biggest scam since 2000 Internet bubble. Sure: AI is here to stay and it will improve workflows. But no: It is not the "everyone will be replaced by AI BS". AI does not understand anything, it's auto complete, nothing else. If you think it is, you clearly got fooled.
