I have no problem with AI being used to map the genome or to iterate on medicines to cure diseases, but in terms of art I have three main issues. First, it is overly commercialized. While letting people use it has advanced the research of it rapidly, it has also led to environmental issues, social issues and false accusations against legitimate artists. Second, it uses stolen assets. Yes, people get inspired by other people's art all the time. Early AI was actually better about this because it was trained to a lesser degree, and as such would create the AI nightmare fuel when it tried to replicate exactly. It lacked the intentional thought that legitimate artists put into their work. Third, it devalues the thought process and learning of artists, even those who are trying to learn through the use of AI. Learning requires improvement at every step along the way. The use of AI to get past a hurdle isn't a bad thing until a person uses it to replace their base thinking. Humans are lazy by default though, and many give up thinking to allow the computer to do it for them instead. If I want a specific dragon shape, I could describe it to an artist, and go back and forth with them until we close on the exact outcome. With the AI, I could do the same, but am more likely to give up if the AI doesn't get it. Most people would do the same.
