I think the thing upsets me the most about the whole situation, it's not the technology itself that's the issue, it's the corporate practices behind it. The technology is a huge achievement but it's being abused to try and generate investment capital / profits. People critical of the situation are being critical of the practices, corporations trying to profit off others work, or using it to replace skilled workers with something inferior just to squeeze out more profits.
If this whole AI era had been done where it was being trained on licensed works, revenue sharing, deployed to compliment and ease the burden for workers, we would all be singing it's praises.
The technology isn't the issue, it's how it's being used.
