If nobody is working then there is no tax going into the coffers. The big companies that are currently spending a fortune on AI development know how to avoid tax. Without tax coming in theres no health service (in the UK), no pensions, no unemployment benefit (welfare), no fire service, no police service, no rubbish collection. The list goes on.
