I actually really welcome the age of AI. I feel as though college has become way too transactional, completely losing sight of the entire reason for education to begin with: learning. AI is FORCING all of us like nothing has before to actually consider why anyone should go to college; is it for a slip of paper, or to actually learn more? I think using AI to do everything will emphasize in a huge way how much we do not because we want to, but because we have to. Doing things just to do them for a grade will be so up in our face, we wont be able to deny it to ourselves anymore. While were generating essays with AI, i imagine people, like i have, will ask themselves “why do i even bother doing this class if im literally absorbing nothing, if its so easy to do?” Before ai, you had to at least look up, read, and manually find the passages to plagiarize for your essay. It required some work, so it kept you from asking that question of why. Now, it requires zero effort. There is nothing that is making you think youre actually working to earn the grade. The ineptness is too obvious to oneself. It has made me question so much why i should bother learning anything. I think its helped me discover my why for a lot of learning i do. Not only that, but AI is so cheap compared to school, that i dont feel forced to do the work, so its entirely my choice. The feeling of no obligation, of no pressure, of no constraints, of pure choice, is so unbelievably liberating. I dont use ai to just copy and paste. I actually read it, i have it give me sources that wouldve taken me a lot longer to find without it. Im consuming so much more BECAUSE of AI, because its completely up to me. I learn what i want, how i want, when i want, and as much as i want.
