The profit generated by automation should fund social programs that cover people's basic needs. People will still want to contribute and be productive, but I think it will look a lot more like taking care of each other, getting in touch with nature and creating a good environment for ourselves and the animals that we share a planet with. People will still want community, human touch and empathy, the experience of making art and the memories made from creating things by hand, the somatic experience of real instruments played by real people and the drama of watching someone play an almost impossible piece.
AI could make life so much more free and amazing if we can train it to handle the repetitive tasks that take up so much of our time and use it to do the jobs that people don't enjoy doing without taking away the resources they've been working for. Just channel it the right way and guarantee people's basic needs are met and AI could be the best thing that's ever happened for us.
