I don't like the news about AI as someone that studies the field. It's misrepresent the real issues and seems to focus on the most scary sounding one. The LLM blackmailing fiasco is from like half a year ago and it's really not that big of a problem. It was more so a stress test of allignment. AI don't intend to break free, LLM's don't have conciousness and no good or bad intentions. It's a stochastic parrot. Allignment is a huge topic in the field and has been for many years. I don't like how not a single news source takes the time to look at the actual paper and explains the nuance.
That's also why the lady moved on from it so quickly because it paints the wrong picture.
I'm not defending anthropic or any big AI companies by the way. This is just my perspective
