I think nightshade needs testing, - probably it's better than nothing, but same was thought about glaze (which works better as detterant than a real defense).
It's just hard to verify reliably, when glaze usefullness could be tested cheaply.
I'd make a guess it's at least another big ethical barrier ai-researchers need to trample on, if they chose to de-poison images that were poisoned with obvious intent.
Overall, it can't hurt much for sure.
