Throughout history, slavery meant that certain groups of people were forced to work for others, often for little or no compensation. Today, AI and robots perform much of the work that humans used to do. In a sense, they could be seen as a new form of labor that generates wealth for humans. If the value created by machines were redistributed—through mechanisms like a universal basic income—humans could benefit directly from automation, while no one would be exploited. Could this be the model for a future economy?
