It seems that a lot of AI users here are using D&D as an example. If you need portraits or backgrounds, it's much cheaper to do a google search than using generative AI. If you're pressed for time or just don't want to embarrass yourself with low quality art, remember that visual aids are only a supplement to a D&D campaign. The focus of a campaign will always be the story, and personalizing an image of a character or setting is not an excuse to avoid getting creative.
