We set out to make artificial intelligence and ended up with artificial creativity.
If you look back at fictional work from, realistically, pre-2010 but more so pre-2000 you will see a lot of concepts around automation and AI. Most of the time it is portrayed as fulfilling the tasks that humans deem too tedious or mundane to do on their own. It could be fully automated factories or farms. Or it could be things like self driving/ flying vehicles. You can even find examples of ai first responders, like police and healthcare workers.
While we might be making steps in those directions, there are real life examples of all of them, we are nowhere near the levels of technology necessary to fully automate any of those things. We thought ai would lead to an automated world where we are free to do whatever we want. Then we got ai and it's doing all the things people love and find joy in. Meanwhile, we are stuck doing the same things we hate doing, except now we get to create and consume uninspired content generated by artificial creativity.
