Some notes: Firstly "people" (humans) did not create shogoths, they were something of a living omnitool by one of several races that ruled over parts of earth during a time so primordial its hard to pin down but long before humanity. In the lore canon they were eventually employed as weapons against another primordial race from beyobd earth. They just wound up a little too good at it and effectively outlived the war and both races - largely settling into a stasis like state at the bottom of sea trenches and other dark forgotten places of the world. Secondly its even more eerie from a symbolic standpoint. Shogoths basically prefer to wrap/engulf their targets and pull the heads off. Symbolicly we are, it seems, surroundimg ourselves with AI (symbollic engulfment) and they are so much better at many things they've removed human thinkers from those processes (symbolic decapitation).
