To be fair; the incentive for them to hide what they are doing exists because there is such a stigma around it. It's basically the same issue with anything, make it unacceptable or ban it, and it doesn't go away, it just goes underground and is harder to regulate. I think whatever we do generative AI is probably here to stay, better or worse; so we should set out ground rules. It's generated images, not art; it cannot be copywritten, trademarked, etc. And companies should have to pay residuals on the profits they make. Even if the 'none of the training data remains' is true; that's like saying if I hire a graphic designer to make a logo, then copy it by eye I don't have to pay them for it. Doesn't hold up.
