There are ways to make AI benefit everyone, but they'll require some pretty progressive policies:
1. Public ownership of AI models and infrastructure, that way any economic benefits from the models flows back into the public purse. Government should be taking stakes in home grown AI companies now, or directly funding AI research and trying to hire the best AI minds to make sovreign AI. France is doing this with minstral.
2. New progressive corporation tax that is banded on Total Revenue, Number of Employees and median employee wage. High revenue generating companies that don't employee many people will be subject to very high taxes.
3. A guarenteed public sector job for every british citizen, funded by the AI tax/AI generated revenue. Will require a big expansion of the public sector, but roles can be allocated based on need. No one would have to worry about getting a job again and we could potentially solve problems like social care.
