From 2017 to 2018, I used to work as a call agent in a refugee organization in Kenya. One day we were told that the organization is introducing a game that refugees in Ugandan and Kenyan refugee camps could play to earn money. The game was about identifying images on an app; the more images you identify the more money you get, extremely little money though. Our work was to call the refugees in the camps (those who have smartphones) and teach them how to play the "game". I now understand, through this documentary, that we were helping an AI tech company somewhere by exploiting the refugees we were seeking to help. I regret my ignorance.
