I think AI art is a really useful tool. I do think they shouldnt be scraping art without permission and instead should be paying for it meaning only artists that have agreed to it are being learnt from and they are making money from it. This would also means the various ai art generators learn from higher quality pieces instead of learning from other AI art online and poisoned art. The only thing I use AI art for is non profit stuff that I use a lot of art for. The biggest one being D&D. I used hundreds of pieces of art for map assets, NPCs and PCs. Im not an artist. I dont have the time to do my own art or the money to buy art. If I did have money for art I would be spending it on art for my game dev stuff so I wasnt using my own awful art for it. So if I could afford artists I would still be stealing/using-AI art for stuff like D&D. tldr; I dont like the current AI model but I think it has a positive place in the future with a direction that supports traditional artists.
