I see two possible scenarios. Scenario A: AGI won't happen and they know it but are desperately hyping up AI to avoid the bubble to burst. The bubble will burst and most of AI companies fade away while investors take a massive hit, and the markets will collapse. Amount of jobs may start to increase slowly again when the use of AI decreases dramatically.
Scenario B: AI is as good as they're telling us and will replace most of the jobs worldwide in the next few years. The rich and powerful already have a plan for the majority of the people who are now unemployed, starving and unable to pay rent/mortgage. The elite of the world full well knows that the resources of Earth are limited, and with the help of AI is time to make a move to reduce the amount of people. The answer is AI armies with drones and robots ready wipe out rioters and people who are not needed. After that the elite can continue living served by their robots and AI.
