A few years ago reddit users revolted because reddit was starting to charge for API calls, essentially killing 3rd party reddit clients. However, the reason reddit wanted to charge for API calls was because companies like chatgpt were using reddit data to train AIs. If you've ever spent time on reddit, you'll know that it's overwhelmingly an echo chamber with even politically neutral sounding sub reddits skewing drastically to just 1 side.
