I think there is one version of the future where robotics and AI integrate with our lives, make work easier, and give people the freedom to be creative, entrepreneurial, and live more fulfilling lives. Where the jobs we don't want to do, we don't have to do, and we can focus on the work that makes us happiest--art, advancing our knowledge of medicine, teaching each other what we know, securing the future of our world. Unfortunately, that's not the trajectory we're on. We're allowing a small handful of people to decide what the future looks like--and that is inherently dangerous.
It's incredibly encouraging that there are leaders keeping an eye on this. A 32-hour work week would force companies to slow down--stop chasing the "unicorn" philosophy of rapid exponential growth and start looking toward the "zebra" model of sustainability and excellence. I think that's a good suggestion.
I wonder what Mr. Sanders thinks about the argument that testing AI as broadly as possible allows for faster innovations in that realm, and that those innovations in AI advancement are needed to help us compete with nations developing the same technology for use against American interests.
