I'm a musician and songwriter. I recently came across an entire YT channel of blues songs based on the Psalms of the bible (Holy Groove). It fooled me until someone pointed out that it was completely AI generated. It's that good. I spent a week fairly despondent over the ramifications for people like me until I plugged one of my own songs into an AI platform called SunoAI and created a cover of my song fully produced in a few minutes. The first thing that came to me is that I can now pitch new songs to recording artists without requiring a demo studio to produce a fully arranged demo. This is revolutionary. I can't afford to just send songs to a demo studio for production, nor do I have the time or the availability of studio musicians to produce it myself. The sole reason to create a song demo is to pitch it to a recording artist who doesn't write their own songs. It's not meant for public consumption. Nobody cares who sang it or played on it. It's the song that matters, not the performance. AI is simply a tool in this case. It's not replacing my creative product, it's simply getting that product in front of someone who can do something with it.
Even a recording artist or a songwriter who wants to produce their own album can use AI without crossing ethical boundaries. When I write a song I hear how it should sound fully produced with all the instrumentation you would hear if it was on Spotify or the radio, but I don't have the means to reproduce what I'm hearing. Hearing it actually played back that way though is extremely motivating and confirming. It lets me know that the song is legit and it also gives me a way to convey to others how the song should be recorded and produced.
There are cheaters out there all over Spotify, YT, and other platforms pumping out AI created crap and people are lapping it up, mostly unaware of what they're hearing. It confirms two things: One, most of the "legit" pop music written today is so generic, you can't tell if it's real or AI. Second, the general public has become so used to pop music with no lasting value, they either can't tell if it's real or don't care. On the other hand, I think there will always be a market for songs written from the human heart, created from the forge of experience only a human can convey, written with a true poet's hand. I don't know if AI will ever replace that. If it does, it's all over. We're not there yet, but meanwhile, I can only hope people will stop looking at music as something to be consumed and start gaining an understanding of how important art is to what it means to be human.
