Gary makes a good point about reduced prices increasing demand... if there are significant cost efficiency gains due to AI, some of that savings may go into decreased prices, though some will also result in a reduction in head count to increase the bottom line. worker jobs transforming into management jobs is also likely but will the translation be 1:1? Likely not. Some worker positions will be dropped. Even if these transitions/compressions are 5:4 that's a 20% reduction in workers. Applied broadly that's 1920's Great Depression era level of unemployment even with human in the loop. Automation will become a serious society level issue long before AI agents and robots powered by AI make human labor obsolete. Progress is exponential. This is difficult for the human brain to process, it tends to over estimate changes in the short term but greatly under estimate changes in the longer term. It may take longer than doomsayers are predicting, but the effect will also likely be bigger.
