Generative AI can be a good tool when used within the right contexts and for the right reasons. After all, we as humans learn art by observing our world, and the art from other humans. Generative AI works similarly. A professional in a studio environment could use AI as a blocking tool or concepting tool or an organizatiomal tool that would help get the ball rolling quicker on a production timeline. The problem lies in that executives see AI as a means to removing most human creativity and problem solving from production processes. It's not a new tool to bring more efficiency to creative industry, it's the solution to get rid of the human factor across many industries including creatives. However, humans WANT to be creative. We have an innate desire to be apart of cultures and contribute with our own expressiveness and talents. Artistic industry is a passion for most and not a job done merely out of necessity. Trying to replace creative workforces is going to be absolutely disasterous in the public backlash, and no consumer wants to know that the "culture" they're experiencing and consuming was generated with a few prompts and an ML model. I've had chats with studio exec's before on this topic as someone working in tech for entertainment. I've learned a lot about the benefits ML technology can bring in creative software, and how it's going to revolutionize the future as a milestone achievement we look back on in history books. But I worry that many companies are going to jump the gun on this technology. It's going to destroy industries just to increase profits. And I don't think it's going to end the way that companies are hoping it will end. There will be backlash, there will be complete industy meltdowns, and there will be total market collapse due to overwhelming wealth disparity if AI is not handled responsibly and with respect to the passion and culture that only humans can create and share with each other. AI as a replacement for art and culture is an absolute insult to those artists that pour their lives and passions into what they create, and I sincerely hope that we don't head on that direction.
