As an AI dev, I think that art generation is an abomination. Please keep poisoning the well! I think that there are limited acceptable use cases, like giving voices to the mute. Stephen Hawking wanted a British voice, but at the time it was not an option. Then his voice was type cast as American. However he was also an outspoken critic of misusing AI. I also see potential for some types of video games to have smarter npcs, that can respond intelligently. However the voice actors should be informed, have a good contract, and be fairly compensated for their talents. It is impossible to have an infinite amount of dialogue for every possible outcome. I think that the line is crossed, at least from a development stance, when the talent is not paid a fair royalty for their labours. I also think that it should be required by law to disclose if a work of art is AI assisted, or AI generated. AI assited meaning that the work was developed using some assets or methods that originate from AI. AI generated, being the majority of the effort to create the work was done by the software engineer, and not a human artist, and certainly not a prompter. Human creative talent should not be outsourced. #AIA for AI assisted and #AIG for AI generated. I also know that code can be a beautiful form of art, just like a well structured poem. This should be appreciated. I personally view AI as a beautiful chefs knife, that can be used to craft loving meals, or used to stab a lover. Most people are choosing the later option in my metaphor. I think a good ethical use case for AI is to tackle medical issues, solve clean energy problems, and solve logistical problems. I think the use for AI in video games has potential to drive new artistic narratives for writers and directors, but this should absolutely not replace human interactions. And the talent for the training data should absolutely be compensated. I don't think AI can create human art, but I think humans can create AI that is art. The distinction is important.
As for the environmental friendliness of AI, I agree that it is not great. However one of the areas I like to study is using AI to help engineer energy solutions. I dream of the day when we have carbon neutral energy production. One of the ways AI can help is by crunching the numbers for things like hydrogen fusion, same thing that makes the sun work. TLDR its a ridiculous amount of math to solve the problem. AI is the best method we have to find, the optimal configuration of all the variables to solve this problem. While very similar to a generative AI, an adversarial AI basically uses the scientific method. It starts with random tries, and keeps track of the ones that preform better. This is how the AI that plays the game GO works. It test scenario's, and finds ones that work. Should humans make AI to replace other humans? No, but I strongly believe that we should use it to help solve real problems.
I also think that there is room for AI to provide entertainment, but the entrainment should be drawing people together, not replace human interaction. And it should be made fairly. Artistic AI should be much like an astrological sculptures. You go with your friends and see what its shadow cast, but it is nothing more than the a shadow of the more beautiful thing. Good astrological sculptures are the combination of the dynamic semi random events, and the beautiful lasting craftsmanship of skilled artisans. The alignment of heavens, under the right conditions is cool. Especially if the weather cooperates. When the day is over you can still enjoy the craftsmanship that went into it.
I use a lot of spell check because its 5am and I am sleepy. I also have a learning disability that makes spelling in English hard. So this silly rambling is #AIA for AI assisted, thanks phone spell check and insomnia. I don't expect anyone to ever agree 100% with anyone else on complex topics, those who do are lazy fools. I want to find common ground and build consensus.
