I think there's a place for AI IN art, and I've even heard a success story of someone using AI code to swiftly drum up a proof-of-concept of her game so that she could put it on a funding site and get money to make the game for real (She threw away literally all of the code from the demo when making her real game, because it was kind of garbage structurally).
But I also think most of the best things most automation could be for won't ever be what they're used for, because when automation is a public good it's not profitable. Until we break out of the profit-first model of existence, automation will serve people who have enough cash to buy the automata first, and will serve the rest of us poorly, or never, or treacherously (as with Alexa, Siri, and Cortana, who are Always Listening).
