It's not technology that drives the uncertainty of safety with AI but the motivation of commerce (greed of having the most profitable product..) you know what they say.. "All is fair in love or war"; add "business" to it... so, ultimate CEO's will demand to exploit AI or any other tool for more revenue and that's when logic, values & ethics go down the drain... The world needs to set rules for everything.. starting with 'mandatory' watermarks for any AI content (so we know what is real and what is not)... look what happened to William Shatner, someone posted AI content of him dying with cancer just to monetize it...!! we can't tell what is truth from deception... and this is only going to get worse. Of course there are benefits in becoming more advanced in any science, but for every great intellectual/scientists seeking innovation and progress, there are hundreds of people thinking how to take advantage of that same technology for far less honorable reasons, including criminal.
