China will overtake America in AI aswell as many other things. The invention of computerisation and the internet by America has allowed the Chinese to gain immense knowledge in a short period of time and to capitalise on new technology as it built it's industries anew from the ground up. Trump's tarriffs are just another stealth tax and cannot replace competitive innovation and successful wealth generating strategies. From some of Trump's comments and actions it my be that he hopes to gain a dominance in the future EV market but this market will be highly contested and uncertain.
