For a guy as smug as Yampolskiy is pretending to be in the know to make as shallow a statement generalizing what all religions are about as he did is typical of academics. Although most religions do have similar messages, the message of the New testament is unique and refutes many of the ideas Mr Yampolskiy’s articulated in this podcast. AI is likely the image of the beast described in the book of revelation and will give the coming world dictator a semblance of omnipresence and omniscience. It will not succeed in destroying humanity because our creator will intervene before it can. The genie is out of the bottle, even if all western nations tried to throttle back AI development the CCP wouldn’t, and that would be even more tragic for humanity than the AI itself running things.
