I've tried creating some AI art from an app. What I discovered was that not everything it created was good and some was rubbish. It was up to me to decide if it was art of not.
This decision making reminded me a lot of taking photos. I walk around and see the world and then take photos of stuff which I haven't created. Am I stealing from nature? Not really as art in photography is recognising which image tells a story and is similar to how the AI artist chooses which picture is art.
AI art is in a art category on its own as much as what photography was when it first occured. You can bet that back then artists said photography isn't art as it doesn't create only reproduce.
I think AI art is our modern equivalent of what photography was back when it was first invented.
