I live in northern Maryland. PSEG wants to build new transmission lines from VA through MD to NJ to supply power to AI data centers. The data centers themselves will be in VA and NJ but the onus will be on Marylanders to pay for the transmission lines as it's going through our state. And our electricity rates would probably double (not to mention the vast amounts of water needed to cool their systems) And we get ZERO from the deal. It's disgusting. Put the burden of the cost on Marylanders and the stockholders for PSEG get rich from profits. Many in my area are fighting tooth and nail to stop it. I think all the AI hoopla is BS. Yeah, maybe we could use a couple globally to perform quantum computing to study space, etc... but all the rest of it is just a means for the Oligarchs to replace humans in the workforce and make themselves richer.
