I don't think it was programmed to scream. The reason why I think this is because you can hear other digital sounds aside from the screams. There is this thing that happens to AI sometimes and they call it AI hallucinations where they do things like this with other sounds coming through as well. I am not sure why they chose the term hallucinations to describe the phenomenon.
