I know my images have been used to train some AI models, I've prompted my name and some generators actually get it close. But, there's nuance to this: 1. It's in the "free" sites and apps terms of service, like social media where you gave permission to use your content. 2. If someone wants something from me, they'll search for me for art, otherwise they're just prompting me for a very bad rendering of my style (this one goes deeper actually but I'll stop here) 3. What would those companies pay me? 0.00001 of a cent for every year my art is inside the training data set? 4. They'll train their models with the best data available, not everyone's art even makes it into the models. So what are we really complaining about that damages us in a real way? My answer is that artists don't want to level up their skills and become more entrepreneurial as it has always been for centuries. AI, the invention of the camera, internet, etc... doesn't touch you as an artist if you know what you're doing.
