I think AI may go the way of Space exploration; at some point people realize how expensive it is and it won't happen. Yes, we have the technology. But at this point exploring the solar system would be 10x cheaper than the energy required for AI to scale. Until that changes, I think it will never be more than a replacement for google search and a really bad intern.
