I hope the NYT wins because it will set an important precedent. I spend a lot of time in fanfiction circles and a lot of authors are worried about their works being scraped for training data. If the NYT wins that tells AI companies that they can't just scrape any text from any website, they have to consider the copyright first. (and fanfiction falls under fair use so the rights would belong to the author)
