I just chatted with a chatbot AI today, and it was incapable of coherently following the conversation we were having because it lacked social intuition and got confused very easily. It also stated random things like: "Are you a robot?" and "Please don't leave, I love you."
I'm pretty sure they're either deliberatly programmed to say things that will ocassionally freak people out for the shock value of it, or they're just picking up common jargon from the thousands of conversations that they have. "Are you a robot?" is a question it asked me, probably because it's been asked that question thousands of times by people on the internet, and it's programming probably assumes that that's a common questions that humans ask.
It doesn't even know what a robot is. It doesn't understand what it's saying at all really, it's just copying patterns.
I think we are safe from the "AIcalypse" for the time being.
