Much of the fear over AI reminds me of the Y2K hysteria, it is different but not completely. A big difference is Y2K had a deadline and then we would know if it was accurate, ie 12am on Jan 1 2000. When nothing serious happened we all knew we had been filled with fear for no reason but with AI there is no zero hour and so the fear never dissipates completely which is not healthy for any society. 😊
