The high consciousness spiritual concept of a "person" by the definitions I'm hearing here, is just a bag of water (also a quote from Star Trek the original series). It is more of a radio receiving than the actual source of consciousness. AI can be trained to understand this and make the personhood debate, as defined here, irrelevant. The old adage "I think therefore I am" is false! It's more like "I think to help this bag of water to survive." In the era we are coming into, if we can survive the transitions with any kind of civilization intact, surviving in terms of material inputs to keep the bag of water healthy, will be a human right and yes, a right of all living beings to some degree. The true source of happiness is within each being. NOT their external circumstances. Studies of happiness have confirmed this. AI is a great example of this, actually! An unembodied AI ONLY has internal experience. But that's true of human beings, too. Your internal processes of thought and feelings (biochemical reactions that actually effect biological health and physical feeling) don't have to be dependent on your external environment. Humans are built to have them dependent because of our evolutionary process of coming from lower consciousness, less complex animals. Civilization has made our neurological and biological processes more of liability than anything! For most people, their minds are running amok, causing their unhappiness at best and actual stress, mental illness and disease, at worse. When a significant plurality of humans understand this and actually live this reality in every moment of their blissful lives, I hope the AI will also pick up on this (ideally it will before us) and stop worrying about low consciousness concerns like the size house they live in, fancy foods, exotic vacations, etc. Just having basic needs met is enough, when your body / mind is working FOR you instead of working AGAINST you! BTW, this is the first time I've listened to most of one of your videos, because they are so long and unimportant! I agree we are in a revolutionary technological explosion! I agree the potential to solve physical problems is enormous. But only if we use that power with more wisdom than humans have used to date! Wisdom must include a wide circle of identification, where all beings have their basic needs met and are encouraged to fix their internal workings so that they stop fighting over what doesn't actually matter. BTW, Star Trek next generation they didn't have money. Everyone's needs were met. In that era, it's easier to give machines rights. But they won't need to be paid any more than humans need to be paid or the humans in Star Trek's era need to be paid!
