The thing is rich people dont need the masses really, they just need resources. With all of earth's resources in their control and able humanoid robots with advanced AI, they can produce whatver they want, they can consume endlessly and they can dominate and enslave the desperate masses however they want. Automation is like the Apple of Eden that the Knight Templars were going for in the Assassins Creed games. Sadly we dont have an Altair or Ezio to combat these power mongers.
